This is exactly why comparisons cause so much trouble - how big would your press have to be to "count"??

Congratulations on your debut!Jeffe Kennedyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04779020656676094853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359127447580954749.post-16265480144077444982018-10-08T10:24:06.726-04:002018-10-08T10:24:06.726-04:00Thank you for this! I have been feeling pressure as my first book is coming out at the end of this month (from a small publisher) and it is hard not to compare what I have going on to the highly public debuts that got book deals. I almost felt silly celebrating at some points but something that helped me was being supported by my wonderful critique group- they are super excited for me. I hesitated to do a launch party but I think it's important to enjoy the moments and not devalue them :)Emily Bybeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08918529840439419120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359127447580954749.post-64612369948803686512018-10-08T10:03:10.862-04:002018-10-08T10:03:10.862-04:00I am in it for the long game! (Though I do it, too.) And absolutely true on what a truly satisfying career is. You're one of the few people I've known who had a classic "debut year." It IS exhausting. Maybe you should write a guest post for us on the topic. :-)Jeffe Kennedyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04779020656676094853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359127447580954749.post-56536196419459820502018-10-07T22:15:02.729-04:002018-10-07T22:15:02.729-04:00You've got that long game thing down! But I'm enjoying the journey and will continue to remind myself to live in the moment and not wish time away, there's things to appreciate at each step.Alexia Chantelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03048542370172786608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359127447580954749.post-50517739823927216772018-10-07T20:34:40.734-04:002018-10-07T20:34:40.734-04:00Great article and so very, very true! The real gold ring is definitely a satisfying career that doesn't suck you dry and will end up providing you with a nice living. Thanks for putting this out there, it is especially helpful to me as I end my "debut year" (about 10 lbs heavier, MUCH grayer, and very, very tired)Minerva Spencerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14313308242507223284noreply@blogger.com
